Daily Mountain Eagle of Jasper ends Monday edition
Business, News

JASPER, Ala. (AP) - The Daily Mountain Eagle of Jasper says it will stop printing a Monday newspaper after this year.

Publisher Jack McNeely announced the decision in a story published Sunday (http://bit.ly/QBjd9z ). He says the newspaper's final Monday edition will be printed on New Year's Eve.

McNeely says the move will strengthen the newspaper's financial position and avoid an across-the-board increase in subscription prices.

No job cuts are planned.

The Daily Mountain Eagle had been publishing daily since 1998. It becomes the latest Alabama newspaper this year to cut back on its publication cycle.

The Anniston Star ended its Monday edition, and newspapers in Birmingham, Huntsville and Mobile have switched to printing only three days a week in favor of a greater digital presence.
